The most important abolitionist
and civil rights leader is Frederick
Douglass. He’s very important
because he helped abolish slavery,
fought for women’s rights
and he experienced many things
as a slave. He was born a slave
and was very poor. He was moved
around a lot when he was little.
While staying with a white family,
he learned how to read and write.
When he grew, he ran away, but
was caught. He successfully
got to the North when borrowed
someone’s identification
and pretend to be a sailor.
After that, he did many things
to end slavery. I chose Frederick
Douglass because he helped abolish
slavery, spoke about it, and
he held government posts to
help stop segregation.
Frederick main goal was to
abolish slavery. He spoke out
to audiences about his life
as a slave, so they could know
how bad it was. Then the Massachusetts
Anti-Slavery Society ask him
to speak on their behalf. But
he sounded so smart, people
didn’t believe him. He
fought for slavery because he
experienced the brutality of
slavery firsthand. Frederick
Douglass main goal was to end
slavery.
Douglass spoke out to help
end slavery. He wrote and made
a lot of speeches. Another way
he spoke out was publishing
his own autobiography called
“Narrative of the Life
of Frederick Douglass”.
Later he published his own newspaper
called “North Star”.
He mostly spoke out, when he
did, he was able to capture
the meaning of America. Douglass
even lectured against slavery
in England. Frederick Douglass
spoke out a lot to end slavery.
During the Civil War Douglass
held many government posts.
When he spoke to Abraham Lincoln,
he encouraged him to free all
slaves and allow them to enlist
in the Union forces. Douglass
was a US Marshal for the District
of Columbia. He recorded the
deeds and was a minister resident
and the consul general to Haiti
and the Dominican Republic.
Douglass was also appointed
as the recruiting officer, his
job was to recruit African Americans
for the war. Frederick Douglass
held many government posts during
the Civil War.
The most important abolitionist
was Frederick Douglass. He fought
to end slavery and spoke out
about it a lot, even in England.
His life was also very hard
so he ran away a lot. Frederick
Douglass was very smart, he
could read and write. He wrote
his own autobiography and his
own newspaper. He was known
as the father of the Civil Rights
Movement. Frederick Douglass
also fought to get women’s
equal rights, and for Native
Americans, and supported public
education. Frederick Douglass
was my choice because he helped
end slavery.

There are many important people
that I studied about throughout
the school year but to me there
was one that caught my attention
the most and that was Frederick
Douglass. Frederick Douglass
is a well-known abolitionist
who was born a slave and later
on bought his freedom. As a
child Frederick had a rough
childhood, he didn’t have
much food or clothes and had
to suffer a lot also for his
mother’s death. Later
on he passed himself as a sailor
to get to freedom and them went
to England to continue to give
speeches on slavery. When he
did come back to the US he bought
his freedom and continued on
trying to abolish slavery and
giving speeches like the one
he gave on the Fourth of July.
Well he is important for many
reasons and a couple might be
because he published his own
autobiography and newspaper
and also participated in the
Civil War. He was also the US
Minister to Haiti. Well in the
end Frederick Douglass helped
African Americans a lot throughout
his lifetime and maybe even
made a very important change
to end slavery.
In conclusion I have to say
that Frederick Douglass is a
very important man who made
some huge changes. He was an
open-minded, determined, and
outspoken man who should be
remembered and honored throughout
history. By studying him and
the things he did we can see
how hard things were for African
Americans back them and all
they had to go through. All
I have to say is that Frederick
Douglass is an example of someone
who can go through obstacles
and problems to get what he
believed in and he did so we
should remember that.
