In this lesson
students should understand
by mapping out the commodities
traded on the Triangle Trade
route that people, particularly
Africans as seen in example
of Equiano, were traded as
a commodity between several
countries.
The purpose
of this activity is to help
students create graphic organizers
for complex information.
DAY 1:
Students complete
the blank copy of the map
of the 13 British colonies.
This is necessary to identify
location on the student-created
map of the Triangle Trade.
Students will also read pages
142-144 of the Hakim book,
From Colonies to Country.
DAY 2:
Students will
create their own map showing
the colonies, England, Africa,
and the West Indies. Using
the paragraph on page 143
(?) students will start mapping
where commodities came from
and where they were sent.
After this activity is completed,
the whole class will list
what they learned about the
slave trade.
DAY 3:
Students will
write at least one paragraph
answering the focus question.
The writing should include
a topic sentence, two pieces
of evidence supporting the
topic sentence, two pieces
of detail supporting the evidence,
a piece of analysis and a
concluding sentence.
DAY 4:
Students will
work in small groups and present
writing protocols.
DAY 5:
Students will
present their revised paragraphs
for round two of protocols.
DAY 6:
Students will
turn in completed writing.
