Leon
Litwack
is a professor at the University
of California at Berkeley and a noted
authority on black history. He has authored
several books including North of Slavery:
The Negro in the Free States, 1790-1860,
Trouble in Mind: Black Southerners
in the Age of Jim Crow, The Harvard
Guide to African-American History, General
Editor (2001) and Been in the Storm
So Long: The Aftermath of Slavery
(winner of the 1980 Pulitzer Prize and
the National Book Award). He has also
served as academic advisor for such PBS
TV series as Rise
and Fall of Jim Crow (2002)
and Reconstruction:
The Second Civil War (2004).
